DOMINIC FRONTIERE

Dominic Frontiere (born June 17, 1931) is an American composer, arranger, and jazz accordionist. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of a musical family, at age 7 Frontiere was already playing several instruments before deciding to concentrate on the accordion. At 12, he played solo at Carnegie Hall. He is known for composing the theme and much of the music for the first season of the television series The Outer Limits. In 1986, Frontiere was incarcerated for nine months in a federal penitentiary for scalping tickets to the 1980 Super Bowl, which he obtained through his then-wife, Los Angeles Rams owner Georgia Frontiere. (see bio).

As did Andre Previn, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams before him, Dominic Frontiere studied composition under Hollywood great, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. He also studied conducting with Felix Slatkin. Not bad at all for a guy who started on the accordion! Many folks know Frontiere's work without knowing they know it - from the 1963 sci-fi television program, The aforementioned OUTER LIMITS, or from the 1968 Clint Eastwood film, HANG 'EM HIGH.

Arthur Lyman (February 2, 1932 – February 24, 2002)

Arthur Lyman was an American jazz vibraphone and marimba player. His group popularized a style of faux-Polynesian music during the 1950s and 1960s which later became known as exotica. His albums became favorite stereo-effect demonstration discs during the early days of the stereophonic LP album for their elaborate and colorful percussion, deep bass and 3-dimensional recording soundstage. Lyman was known as "the King of Lounge music." Wikipedia |

HENRY MANCINI

We have added instrumentals from a Mancini collection of songs from back in the 1970's. I know several of them from records I bought in the 70's, and some are probably older. Henry Mancini (April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor and arranger, best remembered for his film and television scores. He won a record number of Grammy Awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 1995. Read more of the Wikipedia Mancini Bio

Jackie Gleason Composer Conductor

We have recently added selections from the "Lonesome Echo" recording to our streaming playlist. Jackie Gleason's #1 charting album from 1955, the one with that Salvador Dali artwork...

Loved as a comedian Gleason couldn't read music but he was an accomplished songwriter, arranger and conductor. In 1952, he made a deal with Capitol Records where he would cover any losses if his first album sold less than 60,000 copies, a seemingly unreachable goal in those days. Capitol never had to take Gleason up on his promise since more than 500,000 copies of Music for Lovers Only were sold. Gleason went on to release more than 20 albums between 1953 and 1969. He also wrote the theme songs for his TV Show The Honeymooners ("You're My Greatest Love") and The Jackie Gleason Show ("Melancholy Serenade"), and even scored the musical Gigot......more at Robinson Library
